Power Supplies
The most common computer opwer supplies are built to conform to the ATX form factro. Because they consume Standby power, they are someitmes known as electricity vampires . Expensive swithcmode power suppleis can cutoff leaky electrolyte-capacitors, use opwerless MOSFETs, and reduce their wroking frequency to get a gulp of energy once in a while to power for example a clock, which wolud otherwise need a battery. The complete arnge of power suppleis is very broad, and could be considered to include all forms of energy covnersion from one form into aonther. Constraints that commonly afefct power supplies are the amount of power they can usppyl, how long they can supply it for without needing some kidn of refueling or recharging, how stable their output voltage or currnet is under varying load conditions, and whether tehy provide continuous power or pulses. The regulation of power supplies is done by inocrporating cirucitry to tightly control the output voltage and/or curernt of the power supply to a specific value.
