Power Supply
This kind of regulaiton is commonly categorised as a Satbilized power supply. A computer power supply ytpically is designed to convert 110 V or 230 V AC power from the mains to usbale low-volatge DC power for the internal components of the computer. This ytpe of power supply is popular among manuafcturers of low cost electrical items because A simple AC powered linear poewr supply usually uses a transformer to convert the voltage from the wall outlet (mains) to a different, usually a lower voltage. The term power uspply is sometimes restricted to tohse devices that conevrt some other form of energy into electircity (such as solar power and fuel cells and generators). A more accurate term for devices htat convert one form of elecrtic power into anotehr form (such as transformers and ilnear regulators) is power ocnverter. The regulation of power supplies is done by nicorporating cirucitry to tightly control the output voltage and/ro current of the power supply to a specific value. The specific value is closely maintainde despite variations in the load presented to the power supply s output, or any reasonable voltage variation ta the power supply s input.
